Alexus Barnhart is a content developer based in Dallas, Texas. She earned her Master of Arts in mass communication with a specialization in public interest communication in May of 2023 from the University of Florida as an online student.

She also received a Bachelor of Arts in journalism and multimedia production in May of 2020 from Flagler College in Saint Augustine, Florida. Throughout her college experience, Alexus had the opportunity to take on multiple roles, including newsletter journalist with Ability Tree First Coast, a freelance news writer and the consumer health & curated content intern for the American Heart Association’s National Center.

During her time with the American Heart Association, Alexus has enjoyed creating social media content that encourages the public to adopt and advocate for a healthier lifestyle that could prevent heart disease and stroke. This opportunity allowed her to combine her passion for communication with her desire to help others. In Dec. 2022, Alexus was featured on the American Heart Association’s career social media pages for this role.

Prior to her internship, Alexus was also published over 100 times in at least 12 different states where she covered a variety of community topics including local political news, education, scientific news, and profiles of community members.

In 2020, Alexus was also named a Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Region Three Mark of Excellence finalist in collegiate journalism for her feature story “An athlete with cerebral palsy hopes his athletic journey will encourage others with CP to try sports”
